The Wave Relay™ Mobile Ad Hoc Networking System is available as a Sector Antenna Array Router, which provides long range, high throughput, and superior deployment flexibility. The antenna array provides an omni-directional coverage pattern with high gain in all directions. The 5 GHz Sector Antenna Array Routers were tested at 8.5 miles and delivered 8.5 Mbps of TCP throughput, a true testament to the high gain sector approach.

The Sector Array houses three independent antennas, providing high-gain 360° horizontal and wide vertical coverage. Since each antenna covers only a 120° area, RF transmissions are directed towards the destination, minimizing interference and maximizing the capacity of the network. By intelligently focusing the transmission, the system reduces self-interference and promotes spectrum reuse. The sector approach not only facilitates efficient transmission but also promotes efficient reception. Since the Sector Array is able to focus in one direction, it hears interference from only a limited area, actively rejecting interference from other parts of the network.

Wave Relay’s™ routing algorithm enables the antennas to function as a unit. The Router maintains wireless connectivity even when mounted on unstable platforms such as boats and vehicles. Wave Relay™ rapidly adapts to network dynamics, routing between antennas to ensure efficient transmissions, even when the unit itself is mobile. Equipped with a fourth radio module, in addition to the three radios dedicated to the Sector Antenna Array Router, Wave Relay™ can simultaneously function as an 802.11g Wi-Fi access point.

Due to Wave Relay’s™ flexibility, the Sector Antenna Array Router offers a rapidly deployable fixed infrastructure, even in environments not typically suitable for networking. The vertical beam width is ideal for Ship-to-Ship and Ship-to-Shore networks and for vehicular networks, all of which are inherently unstable. On boats and in vehicles, data streams across the network without interruption.
