Throughout the past year, we at Persistent have been redefining the standard of what it means to work in the defense industry. With a strong commitment to creating a positive workplace culture and living up to our values, we are proud to be Certified™ as a Great Place to Work® for the second year in a row, an awardee of the Platinum HIRE Vets Medallion from the U.S. Department of Labor in 2023 and an INC. Best Workplace for 2024.
As we consistently rank higher than the industry standard in overall workplace culture and hiring of U.S. Veterans, we feel that we have cracked the code for what makes a successful team culture.
The secret is in putting our people first and ensuring that we do the little things right. As a 350-person company headquartered in NYC, we aim to hire enthusiastic and emotionally intelligent team members who fit our culture and resonate with our mission to network the battlefield.
With other offices in North Carolina and Colorado and base operations in Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota, we work to ensure every employee feels a part of the Persistent team, regardless of location.
Our people-first mindset has helped us retain team members for five or even ten-plus years. In fact, several team members began their careers at Persistent as interns and have since moved into senior roles. Throughout the past few years, we have invested more resources into our people-first mindset, leading to an impressive 3% voluntary turnover rate.
As a company, we value honesty, integrity, a passion for excellence, and providing cutting-edge technology. We believe these core values have allowed our team members to thrive. From offering learning opportunities, assistance towards achieving yearly goals, or support from leadership, our values are fulfilled when all team members can grow professionally at Persistent.
Our senior leadership lives up to these values as well, as they lead by example and view each team member’s contribution as a critical part of Persistent’s overall success. Additionally, every person feels heard by leadership and respected in their life outside of work. Whether allowing extra time off outside of allotted vacation time for personal matters or supporting philanthropic endeavors, leadership is invested in all team members’ success and overall well-being. This guidance has been set forth by our CEO and co-founder Herb Rubens, who still has lunch in the company break room and interacts with his team members whenever possible.
Long ago, we established fun traditions for fostering positive team bonds, which continue today. Cooking and baking competitions, monthly catered lunches, the annual NYC Dinner Cruise, and end-of-the-year celebrations are just some ways we get together regularly as a team. Another core tradition is giving back to our local communities through Persistent’s Philanthropy Committee. Charities we have supported in the past include Wounded Warriors, the Bodhi Battalion, and local food pantries.
However, our mission to network the battlefield would’ve been impossible without the dedicated men and women who have served in the armed forces and are now on our team. With 34 percent of our team being veterans, Persistent presents retired warfighters the chance to continue serving their brothers/sisters-in-arms by supplying them with next-generation networking technology. This deep commitment to supporting warfighters is what unifies the team, as many know someone who has served or are serving.
Throughout Persistent, all team members, no matter the role, play a critical piece in our overall success. It is truly our people who make it a wonderful place to work.
