For over a decade, Persistent Systems’ team of Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) experts has provided solutions purpose-built to bring communications to UAS. Our solutions, designed for all UAS sizes, offer a reliable datalink, command and control (C2), video link, and computing capabilities, even in the most congested and contested environments.

The Persistent UAS team comprises integration engineers, mechanical designers, product owners with UAS manufacturing backgrounds, and former end-users, bringing firsthand knowledge to every solution. This expertise is bolstered through collaboration with notable UAS manufacturers like Shield AI, Lockheed Martin, and Insitu, all of whom are part of our Wave Relay® Ecosystem – an industry alliance of uncrewed systems and sensors all using the Wave Relay® Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) as their preferred network.

Our UAS solution is divided into three core sub-solutions: Data Link, Ground Control Station (GCS), and Controller/Remote Video Terminal (RVT). These sub-solutions meet the requirements of each platform and mission, ensuring flexibility and reliability in critical environments.

Datalink Solution

Our Blue UAS Certified Wave Relay MANET system, available as an off-the-shelf solution, provides reliable connectivity through the embedded module or MPU5 in L-, S-, or C-Band RF Modules for a wide range of spectrum. Integrated with video encoding and equipped with an Android-based operating system, the Embedded Module and MPU5 offer resilient, high-throughput connectivity and enables users to form UAS swarms, locate targets, and perform other operations.

Key features of our Wave Relay Datalink include:

  • 3×3 multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) technology for up to 130 miles of connectivity.
  • Wave Relay Interference Resilience & Defense (IRD) – a U.S. Department of Defense-assessed, firmware-based solution – to protect the data link from interference.
  • Improved flight time – the Embedded Module is a low-SWaP solution to unite communications, computing, and video subsystems into one form factor.
  • A global communications solution when users activate Cloud Relay™ technology to fly the UAS or backhaul video over SATCOM, Starlink, Cellular, or any other Layer 3 transport.

Ground Control Station (GCS) Solutions

Whether wearable or set up for land or maritime operations, our GCS solutions provide long-range, high-throughput connectivity, ensuring that users can stay connected wherever the mission leads. GCS options include:

  • Wearable GCS: for up to 15 miles of connectivity, providing full UAS control to dismounted warfighters without the need for dedicated GCS equipment.
  • Land GCS: options with the Integrated Sector Antenna for up to 75 miles of range or the Multi-Band Tracking Antenna for 130 miles of connectivity.
  • Maritime GCS: with the Integrated Antenna Sector Antennas mounted on the ship’s mast for missions where the UAV is deployed in open sea. With 360 degrees of coverage over 75 miles, this GCS stays connected to the UAS in GPS-denied areas and provides uninterrupted connectivity to UAS swarms.
  • Over-the-Horizon GCS: enabled by Cloud Relay, which connects over any Layer 3 transport (Cellular, SATCOM, Starlink, 4G/5G, Ethernet) and allows UAS control Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS).

Controller/RVT Solution

Our Controller/RVT Solution enables UAS operators or users on the ground to distribute video to their teams using an Android-based MPU5 system with Persistent’s Rugged Display & Controller (RDC).

This solution reduces equipment burden by consolidating capabilities into a single interface, compatible with applications like Android Flight Control, QGroundControl, and the TAK Wave Relay Plugin. This capability ensures that all users can access critical data across multiple hops, regardless of their location.

All these applications are accessible via the RDC, so any user can fly the UAS, control the camera, and view and distribute video. Even if your UAS platform has a specific-built controller, plug it directly into the MPU5 to provide the same capabilities, ensuring that all UAS data is available where needed.

When used together, these solutions form one comprehensive capability that brings seamless connectivity, bidirectional video transmission, and edge computing to UAS platforms. With our expertise and experience, Persistent Systems aims to empower manufacturers and end-users with the technology they need for mission success, ensuring reliable communication and situational awareness on a global scale.
