For three years, Persistent Systems’ Philanthropy Committee has organized its annual “Bring Your Kid to Work Day”, where team members can bring their children, nieces/nephews, siblings, neighbors, or other closely acquainted youth to the Persistent offices for a day. Taking place in the summer to accommodate school schedules, this year was no exception, as the North Carolina, Colorado, and New York offices hosted 38 children in late July.

However, this year was a bit different as the New York City office welcomed the ‘Bridges From School to Work’ program, known as Bridges, to introduce its students to work at a defense contracting company.

Established by the Marriott family, the Bridges program is a nonprofit “that helps young adults with disabilities find employment. We focus on helping youth, who are in or have completed high school, find their first entry-level job and identify a future career,” explained Megan Keefer, a Pre-Employment Specialist at Bridges. “We provided our students with work-based learning opportunities that expose them to various jobs while helping them create a resume, complete a job application, go on an interview, and adjust their work style to behavioral feedback from their managers,” said Keefer.

Bridges attendees toured Persistent’s production floor, engaged with a Field Application Engineering team member, and experienced our technology in action as they remotely controlled a camera in our Colorado office from New York. Students also built a robot and programmed it to perform specific movements working alongside the other Bring a Kid to Work Day children in attendance.

“This is our first time at this event, and we are extremely excited to be here at Persistent. We cannot wait to tell the rest of our students about it and bring them next year,” said Keefer.

As a high-performing organization, this program has positively impacted the lives of many, and we are proud Persistent was a part of it, even for a day. Persistent’s Bring A Kid to Work day is not only for the children of Persistent team members to see what life is like at their parent’s workplace but also to introduce them to possible career paths.

Victoria Iyere, Senior Marketing Manager and founder of Persistent’s Philanthropy committee stated, “We love hosting the kids every year and introducing them to the different career paths available within a complex organization like Persistent! As we aim to serve all communities, giving back to the youth is especially important because as the future, they will be the ones to carry on our service to those who serve our country.”

With another successful “Bring A Kid to Work Day” concluded, we are excited to welcome the next generation of Persistent Systems!
